So It Begins...

Long into the future, in a land far, far away…

Gin, Ixio, Scarlet and Tamar found themselves travelling south toward Osmarren, a rumored cavern settlement of intelligent races. Their journey brought them into the fetid Mourntin Bogs where they slogged through the grasping mud, with occasional reprieves from ancient rocks that rose from the marsh.

The air hung thick with clouds of insects during the high part of the day as the sun provided dim green light, but darkness began to close in too soon. Green elemental lightning begins to crackle through the fog and clouds as a dreaded marsh storm quickly brews. The first drops of rain begin to fall as the wind picks up.

With lashing rain, flying mud and the chance of elemental rifts, marsh storms bring terror to even the most prepared of heroes…

Long into the future, in a land far, far away…

Gin, Ixio, Scarlet and Tamar continued travelling south through the Mourntin Bogs when a dreaded marsh storm sprung up. The companions huddled under a large tree as the storm intensified. Debris and driving rain pelted the heroes, threatening to overwhelm them. The storm quickly departed but opened an elemental rift that summoned several mud men. The group was able to defeat the creatures with only Tamar suffering minor wounds.

The companions continued their travels, hunting and eating swamp rat to fend off hunger, until they spotted a large pile of rocks jutting from the swamp waters. At the rock pile were two fish-headed humanoids with their large mud-fish mounts. Gin, Ixio, Scarlet and Tamar waited to see if the creatures acted hostile. They soon received an answer as the Kuo-Toa rushed to their mounts and aggressively brandished their spears…

Long into the future, in a land far, far away…

Gin, Ixio, Scarlet and Tamar battled heartily again a pair of Kuo-Toa and their mudfish mounts while traversing the Mourntin Bogs. Once the Kuo-toa were slain, an elf appeared atop the great island of rubble and twisted metal ahead of them. She urged them to quickly follow her inside the rubble pile before the undead arrived. Once inside, the group discovered that the place was a collection of ancient lightning rail cars with large boulders piled on top of them. Soon, a large half-orc arrived with a group of warriors. He chastised Tallalia for allowing strangers into their domicile, but offered the group shelter and food for the night. Gin, Scarlet and Tamar proceeded to delight the miserable occupants of SternCo with music and entertainment as Ixio examined the glowing fungi on the walls.

The next morning, the half-orc warned them to avoid a library where the undead were known to congregate. The companions were then sent away with their weapons as well as Tallalia, who had been banished for her hospitality. They soon came upon a dilapidated tower covered in spider webs. Two humanoid were hanging in the webs and moved about. Gin tried to use telepathy to contact the creatures to no avail. Tamar sensed the beings were evil, so Ixio shot flaming bolts into the web. However, he missed badly and only managed to arouse the giant spider lurking in the trees. The companions defeated the spider and, but the cocoons soon opened and two zombies flopped out.

While one zombie proved easy to put to final death, the other refused to let go of its miserable life. Eventually, a final eldritch blast severed the zombie’s very loose head…

The Hag

Long into the future, in a land far, far away…

Gin, Ixio, Scarlet and Tamar continued slogging through the Mourntin Bogs southward toward Osmarren, but with information from the denizens of SternCo, they planned on making a detour to a rumored ancient library. After a few dismal days they came upon an old crone that begged them not to hurt her. She claimed to be picking edible moss and had nothing of value. Ixio used the true sight of his magical dagger, named Lumen, to view the old elf.

To his surprise, the crone was actually a vicious swamp hag in disguise. Her putrid appearance caused fear among the heroes, but they shook off the effects as Gin struck the first massive blow. Under intense attack, the witch fled. As Ixio and Tamar searched the hag’s skiff, Gin and Scarlet warily kept watch. Gin tried to blast an area of bubbles were he suspected the hag was hiding in the water, but turned up nothing. But Scarlet ran up with her rapier and struck the hag under the water, exposing her for Ixio’s final blow. They found several regents, potions and scrolls in the skiff, as well as sleeping poison.

The heroes eventually made it out of the Mourntin Bogs and camped for the night on the outskirts of the Abzaal Rock Flats. During the evening, Gin was hunted by a panther. The beast pounced on him, knocking him to the ground. However, the warlock cast a quick spell that scrambled the panther’s brain, dropping it dead…

Long into the future, in a land far, far away…

Gin, Ixio, Scarlet and Tamar decided to finish out their night of rest on the Abzaal Rock Flats after Gin had killed a panther. As Ixio kept watch, Gin awoke screaming with his eyes smoldering. His companions tried to alleviate the pain and find out what was wrong, but eventually Gin’s pain subsided and he explained that his condition was a part of his family curse.

The next day, Ixio cast a spell to find a familiar. Out of the gloom Eki, the cutest kitty you ever saw, appeared to aid him in his future adventures. After marching through the morning, the group came upon three ghouls feasting on a dead elf. Next to them were several trinkets and much needed wineskins. Gin and Ixio used illusionary magic to draw away some of the ghouls as Tamar and Scarlet bound in to attack. Ixio used his new wizard powers to cause two of the ghouls to stumble around in a greasy area. But they still managed to paralyze and chomp on Tamar before they were all put to final death. After Scarlet played a lovely melody on her guitar to boost Tamar’s strength, they again headed out.

The next day, Ixio disturbed a nest of centipedes. They began crawling all over him and biting. He ran like a sissy human away and the swarm went after Tamar. She too fled as Gin and Scarlet kept their cool and tried to disperse the swarm. The centipedes were eventually squashed, with the last remaining few sliding out of sight under the rocks…

Undead Library

Long into the future, in a land far, far away…

Gin, Ixio, Scarlet and Tamar continued travelling the Abzaal Rock Flats in search of a supposed library as a rock storm quickly approached. The companions sought shelter, but Gin was left partially exposed to the fury of the storm and suffered the consequences of whirling sand and pebbles. The storm passed as quickly as it arrived and the group continued their march.

Soon, they saw a laccolith with a large building situated next to it. As they drew closer, they noticed several zombies milling about outside. They attacked the zombies as more arrived from behind the building. Several proved difficult to put down, but they were able to eventually destroy them all.

In the meantime, Eki climbed to the top of the building and peered into an area enclosed by a concrete wall. Inside were two small buildings as well as skeletal guards walking through the yard. With help from the kitty, the group climbed to the top of the building and began raining fire upon the skeletons. While a skeleton with a pitchfork went easily, several others drew short swords and returned fire. As the battle raged, Eki snuck toward one of the holes in the building’s roof and peered inside…

Gin, Ixio, Scarlet and Tamar eventually destroyed all of the skeletons in the enclosure beside the ancient library they discovered in the Abzaal Rock Flats. Unfortunately, Gin suffered serious wounds during the fight and had to be revived. Exhausted and with most of their magic spent, the companions decided to bunk down for the night. The next morning they explored the yard and discovered another skeleton in the guardhouse. While that skeleton was slain easily, Gin also discovered skeletal warhorses and stableman in the stables. He warned the others to be cautious and they entered the library.

Meanwhile, Eki crept through sun shafts in the roof to discover what used to be an indoor garden. Standing in the middle of the garden’s intersecting paths was a skeletal minotaur. The cat hid behind a well and waited for his people to arrive. Inside the library, the group haphazardly went about individually. They discovered an abandoned weapons training room and a gelatinous mass with items floating in it down one hallway. Gin warned the group of the danger and urged them to continue investigating the ruins in a more strategic manner.
They then opened a door to an abandoned dining hall where a swarm of undead rats quickly attacked. The vermin were slashed, blasted and poisoned back into death…

RIP Ixio

Long into the future, in a land far, far away…

Gin, Ixio, Scarlet and Tamar continued searching through the dining room of the supposed library in the Abzaal Rock Flats. They discovered very little and peeked into the adjoining kitchen. Inside was a bulbous carrion crawler that immediately attacked Tamar. The half-orc succumbed to the creature’s paralyzation poison, but managed to shake off the effects as the group laid waste to the beast. As they searched the kitchen, Gin peered out into the hallway and discovered the gelatinous cube standing sentry in the hallway. Ixio devised a plan to use magic in order to open the doors to the garden to see if the minatour inside would attack the creature. Unfortunately, Ixio wasn’t fast enough and the cube engulfed him. Despite the best efforts from the rest of the heroes, Ixio was dissolved into nothingness.

Shocked at their comrade’s death, Gin, Scarlet and Tamar fled from the cube and dashed into a library. As they closed the doors to the library, Eki entered the room. They assumed the cat would disappear upon Ixio’s death and were doubly shocked when the cat morphed into a humanoid. Eki explained that he had been summoned as a familiar to Ixio and had to remain in his cat form due to Ixio’s magic. However, since Ixio was dead, he was now able to transform at will. The three other companions expressed doubts to the story, but Eki’s loyalty was put to the test when Scarlet was attacked by a mimic disguised as a bookshelf.

The creature proved difficult to kill, with Eki and Scarlet almost dying. However, the companions managed to slay the vile creature and noticed some scroll cases situated next to it…

RIP Scarlet

Long into the future, in a land far, far away…

Gin, Scarlet, Tamar and Eki took a much needed rest in the library of a stronghold in the Abzaal Rock Flats. The companions did manage to find several volumes of books written in an unknown language, as well as four magic scrolls before heading out to further explore with a new sense of purpose.

As Eki quickly and quietly secured weapons from the armory previously visited, Gin blasted the gelatinous cube with fierce eldritch magic. With help from Scarlet and Tamar, the cube was finally destroyed and Eki searched through the creature’s slime for treasure.

The heroes then turned to explore an empty private chamber. Tamar searched inside a lavatory only to come under attack by a vicious grell. The creature used its tentacles to paralyze her and her companions came to the rescue. Scarlet positioned herself to battle the creature, only to find herself poisoned by the aberrant beast after Tamar managed to escape. Eki flipped through the air to join the fray, but ended up getting smacked down by the grell.

Unfortunately, Scarlet could not stand up to the creatures whip-like tentacles and she perished. Enraged at her friend’s death, Tamar struck at the creature and viciously stomped it to a bloody pulp…

The Pact is Sealed

Long into the future, in a land far, far away…

Gin, Tamar and Eki stood amid the bloody ruin of what was once the grell that killed their companion, Scarlet. As they decided their next move, Gin examined the books he discovered in the library. He was shocked to discover one of the books recounted his bonding experience with his warlock patron and was then put into a trance. Tamar and Eki watched in confusion as Gin performed a vile ritual which opened the fabric of reality and summoned a strange tentacled cat creature. Once shaken from the trance, Gin explained the creature was his familiar named Malum and the pact with his patron had been sealed.

Tamar agreed to continue exploring the ruin with a promise from Gin and Eki to give Scarlet a proper burial. The group entered a large sleeping chamber where they came under attack from two shadows. The undead creatures were easily scattered back to death. In the next room, a nothic guarded a white altar. The creature seemed to target Gin and almost killed him while gibbering “Umbra”. However the aberration was put under a submission spell and halted his attack as the rest of the group explored the altar. They read the strange writing upon it and the floor opened to reveal a spiral staircase.

The companions had a strong urge to clear the rest of the ground level before descending and decided to take on the minotaur they knew to be guarding a large garden in the center of the ruin. Gin used an illusion to distract the minotaur before they entered the garden. Once inside, they were surprised when a wood elf climbed out of one of the open graves. She quickly explained that her name was Rein and that she had been following them through the Abzaal Rock Flats. But before she could finish her story, the minotaur charged back into the room…
